about: The Christmas motet Ecce annuntio vobis was published in the collection Concerti Sacri in 1642. It is one of 16 solo motets by Cozzolani and one of only four that have survived complete. The text is a paraphrase of the angelic announcement of the birth of Christ found in Luke 2:10-14. By contrast with the other soprano solo motet in the 1642 collection O quam bonum, o quam jocundum, this motet is more iterative and has no sectional refrain. There is however a "musical rhyme", as the text "…qui est Christus" returns seven times at different pitch levels.

Ecce annuntio vobis gaudium magnum; quia natus est nobis hodie Salvator mundi, qui est Christus.

Ecce natus est nobis hodie angelus consilii, ecce natus est nobis hodie pater futuri sæculi, ecce natus est nobis hodie princeps pacis, qui est Christus. Alleluia.

Audite, quia facta est multitudo cælestis exercitus laudantium et dicentium gloriam parvulo, qui est Christus.

Videte, quia pastores currunt venerari natum de virgine, qui est Christus.

Venite ergo, venite gentes, adoremus infantem pannis involutum et positum in præsepio, adoremus infantem, qui est Christus.
